THE ROLE OF HUMAN RESOUCE IN GLOBAL BUSINESS CONTEXT | Chapter 1

HRM is integral to achieving the success of the global business. The emerging globalized market environment has led organizations to operate in culturally and geographically diverse contexts, creating an urgent need for HRM practices to integrate and flourish. HRM has a real variation between regions, and familiarity with the important cultural differences is critical to the success of Business in worldwide markets (Tung, 2016)

In a worldwide business scenario, HRM is responsible for managing the members of a dissimilar workgroup, including implications of culture, legislation, and society. HRM activities contain employee recruitment, training and development(T&D), performance management, and worker improvement that must be adapted to reflect the local values and practices of each country or region where a company operates (Collings et al., 2017).

A strong example is collectivism and hierarchy, which might still be the game's name in HR best practices within a country like Japan. Still, the opposite (ego and egalitarianism) is widely accepted and used across the US as an example. These cultural discrepancies affect employee management, motivation, andretention (Hofstede, 2001). Human resources managers must be qualified for actual implementations of strategies that consider cultural differences with the same importance as making the strategy achieve the company’s overall business aims.

In addition, HRM is the all-important element in building better cross-cultural communication and cooperation. With the rapid expansion of companies worldwide, HR managers essential to confirm that staffs from dissimilar social backgrounds employees can work together in harmony, engaging seamlessly despite being in a multi-lingual and multi-national environment. To create an environment for innovation and employee satisfaction, companies are applying global HR practices, according to Stone (2021), such as diversity and inclusion initiatives, flexible workplace policies, and expatriate policies.

Make no mistake to think that HRM in global situations is all about human resources management, but it is the strategic alignment of human resources with business objectives and respecting cultural differences. This balancing act, the ability to localize HR practices without losing a global perspective, allows companies to expand and excel in a competitive international business environment.
