CRITICAL ANALYSIS OF HRM PRACTICES : Bridging Theory with Practical Application | Chapter 03
While HRM theories aptly equip us with the framework necessary to deal with people in organizations, the real challenge is putting theory into practice to solve complex problems in organizations. Understanding theories on HRM practices alone is insufficient, and application in an organization will require critical analysis to tailor it in a way that serves an organization.
One of the tasks of HR managers is to balance employee satisfaction with corporate goals. Moreover, HR policymakers will find that a critical analysis lens enables them to consider the influence of social structures in assessing why a policy or practice works and to better explore both intended and unintended effects and consequences. For example, flexible work arrangements such as working from home may increase employee satisfaction but may also be troublesome as such arrangements cause some problems in collaboration and communication. Therefore, responding to and evaluating these outcomes can help HR managers update their processes and design more efficient strategies (Boxall et al., 2008).
Moreover, HRM practices must expand to accommodate new and emerging challenges like diversity, inclusion, and the effect of technology on work. HR professionals must adopt theories and practices from Academic HR literature into practical, day-to-day HR operations to cater to dynamic and fast-paced business challenges. With this proactive approach, HR professionals can highly anticipate industry trends and workplace behavior, which can cause effective restructuring of HRM practices to keep the organization aggressive and adaptable to the rising desires of the employees (Rusman Alimin, 2024).
